The story itself is a bit hit and miss (personally I didn’t like the ending, because it left a bit too much unresolved imo), but where this game shines are the characters, which are fun and interesting (except the MC’s sister, hate that b****). The gameplay is simple enough, but engaging enough to get you doing the quests and story (boss fight is too long though, it’s not hard, just annoying after a while). I would never have played this, if it wasn’t for Humble Choice, but the game was surprisingly fun. The story begins to wind down towards the finale. The game is fun, but the controls are terrible. You need at least some sugar and water, or all you have is lemon juice. However they actually understand that if the game gives you nothing but lemons, you can’t make lemonade. The cost is excessive when compared to other pixel art of the caliber of Stardew Valley for example (which costs less and the contents are infinite). Dungeons of the Endless is another game which offers a difficult dungeon crawl floor by floor, with heavy RNG. Technical Art Director Brooks Gordon talks us through the process of creating character animations and effects for Darkest Dungeon. I recommend this game only if it’s heavily discounted otherwise don’t even rate it. I believe the game is coded in C++, the animations are created with a program called Spine, the audio software used is FMOD Studio and as far as I can tell Chris is using Photoshop for the art.
